From a young age I have loved English, when I was in kindergarten I was taught the language with books and songs which made me like it more. Starting my senior year, everyone starts to ask the typical question “What are you going to study?” for me that question didn’t seem to be a problem because I thought I had decided to study “Interpretation and Translation” but I started to see my alternatives (because you always have to have different alternatives) and I realized that the work space was not very good, and since I was little I had wanted to be a teacher, so I asked for help to the counselor of the school I was in and he helped me to find out what I really wanted.
I know that studying “Pedagogy in English” will be a help for me and for other people who want to learn this language. I know that thanks to this career I will be able to fulfill my childhood dream, to travel around the world and learn about different cultures, knowing English I will be able to communicate with people from other countries since English is now one of the universal languages.
My first day of university was very nice and confusing, I remember that day we had a scheduling problem so most of us arrived early, and it turned out that my class started at 12:10 PM and not at 10:20 AM, which was the time most of us arrived. My first class was with teacher Rocio, who was very nice to all of us in welcoming us.
To be honest I didn’t think I would do so well, but I have to say that I haven’t found “Phonetics” easy (sorry James ☹) , I understand “minimals pairs” and “homophones” but when I got to the test I was confusing them. What I think is my forte is “Listening”, I’ve always been a good listener and I feel that’s what I’ve done best at.
“Speaking and Pronunciation”, it’s one of my strengths I think, but I feel like I need to get better at some things, but I know I have good pronunciation so I know I can improve it and can get better at holding my own in a conversation with someone.
What has always been very difficult for me has always been grammar, I don’t know why, I just have always had a hard time with it… When it comes to vocabulary I think it is not one of my strong points, before entering the university I didn’t have so many English words in my vocabulary, just the basic words, but after I entered I learned many words that I didn’t even know existed, I know that I can improve my vocabulary if I study more so I am very happy with what I have learned so far.
“Reading” and “Writing”, I feel that I am doing well for being the first time reading a lot of texts in English and writing letters, I have learned a lot during these months and I feel that I am improving in this subject, because before I used to use “like” for everything and now I know what words to write or say instead of “like”.
The teachers have made us work alone, in pairs and even in groups, I think it is a very good experience because we can complement each other and help each other, in what one may find difficult and the other understands it backwards and forwards, so we can also get to know our classmates better. The classes are different according to each teacher and that’s something I like because we don’t all learn in the same way, but something that is very similar is that they do a lot of exercises, and I know that this can help me to improve, because it’s the same as in math, the more you practice the faster you learn.
